Tendo José dezessete anos, apascentava os rebanhos com seus irmãos; sendo ainda jovem, acompanhava os filhos de Bila e os filhos de Zilpa, mulheres de seu pai; e trazia más notícias deles a seu pai. 3 Ora, Israel amava mais a José que a todos os seus filhos, porque era filho da sua velhice; e fez-lhe uma túnica talar de mangas compridas. 4 Vendo, pois, seus irmãos que o pai o amava mais que a todos os outros filhos, odiaram-no e já não lhe podiam falar pacificamente. 5 Teve José um sonho e o relatou a seus irmãos; por isso, o odiaram ainda mais. 6 Pois lhes disse: Rogo-vos, ouvi este sonho que tive: 7 Atávamos feixes no campo, e eis que o meu feixe se levantou e ficou em pé; e os vossos feixes o rodeavam e se inclinavam perante o meu. 8 Então, lhe disseram seus irmãos: Reinarás, com efeito, sobre nós? E sobre nós dominarás realmente? E com isso tanto mais o odiavam, por causa dos seus sonhos e de suas palavras. 9 Teve ainda outro sonho e o referiu a seus irmãos, dizendo: Sonhei também que o sol, a lua e onze estrelas se inclinavam perante mim. 10 Contando-o a seu pai e a seus irmãos, repreendeu-o o pai e lhe disse: Que sonho é esse que tiveste? Acaso, viremos, eu e tua mãe e teus irmãos, a inclinar-nos perante ti em terra? 11 Seus irmãos lhe tinham ciúmes; o pai, no entanto, considerava o caso consigo mesmo. 12 E, como foram os irmãos apascentar o rebanho do pai, em Siquém, 13 perguntou Israel a José: Não apascentam teus irmãos o rebanho em Siquém? Vem, enviar-te-ei a eles. Respondeu-lhe José: Eis-me aqui. 14 Disse-lhe Israel: Vai, agora, e vê se vão bem teus irmãos e o rebanho; e traze-me notícias. Assim, o enviou do vale de Hebrom, e ele foi a Siquém. 15 E um homem encontrou a José, que andava errante pelo campo, e lhe perguntou: Que procuras? 16 Respondeu: Procuro meus irmãos; dize-me: Onde apascentam eles o rebanho? 17 Disse-lhe o homem: Foram-se daqui, pois ouvi-os dizer: Vamos a Dotã. Então, seguiu José atrás dos irmãos e os achou em Dotã. 18 De longe o viram e, antes que chegasse, conspiraram contra ele para o matar. 19 E dizia um ao outro: Vem lá o tal sonhador! 20 Vinde, pois, agora, matemo-lo e lancemo-lo numa destas cisternas; e diremos: Um animal selvagem o comeu; e vejamos em que lhe darão os sonhos. 21 Mas Rúben, ouvindo isso, livrou-o das mãos deles e disse: Não lhe tiremos a vida. 22 Também lhes disse Rúben: Não derrameis sangue; lançai-o nesta cisterna que está no deserto, e não ponhais mão sobre ele; isto disse para o livrar deles, a fim de o restituir ao pai. 23 Mas, logo que chegou José a seus irmãos, despiram-no da túnica, a túnica talar de mangas compridas que trazia. 24 E, tomando-o, o lançaram na cisterna, vazia, sem água. 25 Ora, sentando-se para comer pão, olharam e viram que uma caravana de ismaelitas vinha de Gileade; seus camelos traziam arômatas, bálsamo e mirra, que levavam para o Egito. 26 Então, disse Judá a seus irmãos: De que nos aproveita matar o nosso irmão e esconder-lhe o sangue? 27 Vinde, vendamo-lo aos ismaelitas; não ponhamos sobre ele a mão, pois é nosso irmão e nossa carne. Seus irmãos concordaram. 28 E, passando os mercadores midianitas, os irmãos de José o alçaram, e o tiraram da cisterna, e o venderam por vinte siclos de prata aos ismaelitas; estes levaram José ao Egito. 29 Tendo Rúben voltado à cisterna, eis que José não estava nela; então, rasgou as suas vestes. 30 E, voltando a seus irmãos, disse: Não está lá o menino; e, eu, para onde irei? 31 Então, tomaram a túnica de José, mataram um bode e a molharam no sangue. 32 E enviaram a túnica talar de mangas compridas, fizeram-na levar a seu pai e lhe disseram: Achamos isto; vê se é ou não a túnica de teu filho. 33 Ele a reconheceu e disse: É a túnica de meu filho; um animal selvagem o terá comido, certamente José foi despedaçado. 34 Então, Jacó rasgou as suas vestes, e se cingiu de pano de saco, e lamentou o filho por muitos dias. 35 Levantaram-se todos os seus filhos e todas as suas filhas, para o consolarem; ele, porém, recusou ser consolado e disse: Chorando, descerei a meu filho até à sepultura. E de fato o chorou seu pai. 36 Entrementes, os midianitas venderam José no Egito a Potifar, oficial de Faraó, comandante da guarda. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  37 And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. 2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. 4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him. 5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more. 6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: 7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf. 8 And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. 9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? 11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying. 12 And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem. 13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. 14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. 15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? 16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks. 17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan. 18 And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. 19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. 20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams. 21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him. 22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again. 23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; 24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. 25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. 26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. 28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt. 29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes. 30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go? 31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood; 32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son's coat or no. 33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. 34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days. 35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him. 36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Marcos 8 1 Naqueles dias, quando outra vez se reuniu grande multidão, e não tendo eles o que comer, chamou Jesus os discípulos e lhes disse: 2 Tenho compaixão desta gente, porque há três dias que permanecem comigo e não têm o que comer. 3 Se eu os despedir para suas casas, em jejum, desfalecerão pelo caminho; e alguns deles vieram de longe. 4 Mas os seus discípulos lhe responderam: Donde poderá alguém fartá-los de pão neste deserto? 5 E Jesus lhes perguntou: Quantos pães tendes? Responderam eles: Sete. 6 Ordenou ao povo que se assentasse no chão. E, tomando os sete pães, partiu-os, após ter dado graças, e os deu a seus discípulos, para que estes os distribuíssem, repartindo entre o povo. 7 Tinham também alguns peixinhos; e, abençoando-os, mandou que estes igualmente fossem distribuídos. 8 Comeram e se fartaram; e dos pedaços restantes recolheram sete cestos. 9 Eram cerca de quatro mil homens. Então, Jesus os despediu. 10 Logo a seguir, tendo embarcado juntamente com seus discípulos, partiu para as regiões de Dalmanuta. 11 E, saindo os fariseus, puseram-se a discutir com ele; e, tentando-o, pediram-lhe um sinal do céu. 12 Jesus, porém, arrancou do íntimo do seu espírito um gemido e disse: Por que pede esta geração um sinal? Em verdade vos digo que a esta geração não se lhe dará sinal algum. 13 E, deixando-os, tornou a embarcar e foi para o outro lado. 14 Ora, aconteceu que eles se esqueceram de levar pães e, no barco, não tinham consigo senão um só. 15 Preveniu-os Jesus, dizendo: Vede, guardai-vos do fermento dos fariseus e do fermento de Herodes. 16 E eles discorriam entre si: É que não temos pão. 17 Jesus, percebendo-o, lhes perguntou: Por que discorreis sobre o não terdes pão? Ainda não considerastes, nem compreendestes? Tendes o coração endurecido? 18 Tendo olhos, não vedes? E, tendo ouvidos, não ouvis? Não vos lembrais 19 de quando parti os cinco pães para os cinco mil, quantos cestos cheios de pedaços recolhestes? Responderam eles: Doze! 20 E de quando parti os sete pães para os quatro mil, quantos cestos cheios de pedaços recolhestes? Responderam: Sete! 21 Ao que lhes disse Jesus: Não compreendeis ainda? 22 Então, chegaram a Betsaida; e lhe trouxeram um cego, rogando-lhe que o tocasse. 23 Jesus, tomando o cego pela mão, levou-o para fora da aldeia e, aplicando-lhe saliva aos olhos e impondo-lhe as mãos, perguntou-lhe: Vês alguma coisa? 24 Este, recobrando a vista, respondeu: Vejo os homens, porque como árvores os vejo, andando. 25 Então, novamente lhe pôs as mãos nos olhos, e ele, passando a ver claramente, ficou restabelecido; e tudo distinguia de modo perfeito. 26 E mandou-o Jesus embora para casa, recomendando-lhe: Não entres na aldeia. 27 Então, Jesus e os seus discípulos partiram para as aldeias de Cesaréia de Filipe; e, no caminho, perguntou-lhes: Quem dizem os homens que sou eu? 28 E responderam: João Batista; outros: Elias; mas outros: Algum dos profetas. 29 Então, lhes perguntou: Mas vós, quem dizeis que eu sou? Respondendo, Pedro lhe disse: Tu és o Cristo. 30 Advertiu-os Jesus de que a ninguém dissessem tal coisa a seu respeito. 31 Então, começou ele a ensinar-lhes que era necessário que o Filho do Homem sofresse muitas coisas, fosse rejeitado pelos anciãos, pelos principais sacerdotes e pelos escribas, fosse morto e que, depois de três dias, ressuscitasse. 32 E isto ele expunha claramente. Mas Pedro, chamando-o à parte, começou a reprová-lo. 33 Jesus, porém, voltou-se e, fitando os seus discípulos, repreendeu a Pedro e disse: Arreda, Satanás! Porque não cogitas das coisas de Deus, e sim das dos homens. 34 Então, convocando a multidão e juntamente os seus discípulos, disse-lhes: Se alguém quer vir após mim, a si mesmo se negue, tome a sua cruz e siga-me. 35 Quem quiser, pois, salvar a sua vida perdê-la-á; e quem perder a vida por causa de mim e do evangelho salvá-la-á. 36 Que aproveita ao homem ganhar o mundo inteiro e perder a sua alma? 37 Que daria um homem em troca de sua alma? 38 Porque qualquer que, nesta geração adúltera e pecadora, se envergonhar de mim e das minhas palavras, também o Filho do Homem se envergonhará dele, quando vier na glória de seu Pai com os santos anjos. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  8 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them, 2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: 3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. 4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? 5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. 6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people. 7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them. 8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets. 9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away. 10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. 11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation. 13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side. 14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. 15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. 16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. 17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened? 18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? 19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve. 20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. 21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand? 22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. 24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. 25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly. 26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. 27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am? 28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. 29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. 30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. 31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. 34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  Jó 4 1 Então, respondeu Elifaz, o temanita, e disse: 2 Se intentar alguém falar-te, enfadar-te-ás? Quem, todavia, poderá conter as palavras? 3 Eis que tens ensinado a muitos e tens fortalecido mãos fracas. 4 As tuas palavras têm sustentado aos que tropeçavam, e os joelhos vacilantes tens fortificado. 5 Mas agora, em chegando a tua vez, tu te enfadas; sendo tu atingido, te perturbas. 6 Porventura, não é o teu temor de Deus aquilo em que confias, e a tua esperança, a retidão dos teus caminhos? 7 Lembra-te: acaso, já pereceu algum inocente? E onde foram os retos destruídos? 8 Segundo eu tenho visto, os que lavram a iniqüidade e semeiam o mal, isso mesmo eles segam. 9 Com o hálito de Deus perecem; e com o assopro da sua ira se consomem. 10 Cessa o bramido do leão e a voz do leão feroz, e os dentes dos leõezinhos se quebram. 11 Perece o leão, porque não há presa, e os filhos da leoa andam dispersos. 12 Uma palavra se me disse em segredo; e os meus ouvidos perceberam um sussurro dela. 13 Entre pensamentos de visões noturnas, quando profundo sono cai sobre os homens, 14 sobrevieram-me o espanto e o tremor, e todos os meus ossos estremeceram. 15 Então, um espírito passou por diante de mim; fez-me arrepiar os cabelos do meu corpo; 16 parou ele, mas não lhe discerni a aparência; um vulto estava diante dos meus olhos; houve silêncio, e ouvi uma voz: 17 Seria, porventura, o mortal justo diante de Deus? Seria, acaso, o homem puro diante do seu Criador? 18 Eis que Deus não confia nos seus servos e aos seus anjos atribui imperfeições; 19 quanto mais àqueles que habitam em casas de barro, cujo fundamento está no pó, e são esmagados como a traça! 20 Nascem de manhã e à tarde são destruídos; perecem para sempre, sem que disso se faça caso. 21 Se se lhes corta o fio da vida, morrem e não atingem a sabedoria. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦  4 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 2 If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking? 3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands. 4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees. 5 But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled. 6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways? 7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off? 8 Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. 9 By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. 10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. 11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad. 12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof. 13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men, 14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake. 15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up: 16 It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying, 17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker? 18 Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: 19 How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? 20 They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it. 21 Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom. ..... ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦ ◦
